Shepherds Pie is a classic British recipe that originally used meat and potatoes from a Sunday roast. A variation of Shepherds Pie is Cottage Pie - for a Cottage Pie, just replace the lamb mince with beef mince and the diced carrots with peas.
Shepherds Pie Recipe Ingredients
- 900g floury poatotes, such as King Edwards
- 50g butter
- 1 bunch spring onions, trimmed and sliced
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, peeled and diced
- 750g lean mince lamb
- 90ml red wine
- 2 tablespoons plain flour
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 250ml lamb stock or gravy
- 4 sprigs of thyme, leaves of
- sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
